Fish
Problem solving, self-help skills, expression of needs and wants, fine and large motor activities, number and letter recognition, sorting and patterning are some things that the children in the Fish Room are working on.
The Fish Room was designed to provide exceptional care for children aged three years to four years. Enrolled families can expect a safe, secure, nurturing, and age-appropriate learning environment. Experienced, well-qualified teachers are staffed at a 1:10 ratio. Teachers are dedicated to responding promptly to every child’s daily needs.
Families are provided with daily written reports that accurately summarize the child’s daily activities. In addition to communication at drop off and pick up, families are encouraged to call or visit as desired. Weekly lesson plans are posted in the parent area as well as a glance at each specific day.
Classroom Schedule
Fish continue to practice consistency by following a daily routine. Teachers foster growth by introducing new experiences through creative play and exploration while encouraging children to learn.

What to Expect in the Fish Room
Social Emotional Development
-
Throughout the year we are going to have a strong focus on independence and an “I can do it” attitude. Mistakes and accidents are expected and are part of the learning process.
-
Children will be encouraged to solve their problems with their friends by using their words. Teachers will supervise but give children the opportunity to solve problems independently.
-
We will play many large group games, practicing taking turns and sitting patiently for an appropriate amount of time.
-
Our kids will learn and practice to self-regulate their emotions. We often talk about feelings, calm down strategies, and processing big emotions.
Language Development
-
We will work on recognizing the upper-case letters of the alphabet as well as some (limited) letter sounds.
-
Children will be encouraged to express their needs, wants, and ideas with their words and to communicate directly with their peers rather than through the teacher.
-
We will introduce the various parts of a story/book and will write and illustrate several group and individual books/stories throughout the year.
Physical Development
-
We will work on balance, endurance, and strength through activities like obstacle courses, races, and outdoor games.
-
We will work on the proper way to hold markers and crayons and encourage the children to write their name on their work whether it is a scribble or well-formed letters.
Cognitive Development
-
We will continue with counting to 20 and offer many hands-on experiences as we strive towards consistently recognizing the numerals 1-10. Counting and number recognition will naturally be a big part of the daily schedule.
-
We will practice and demonstrate counting with one-to-one correspondence.
-
We will start to explore the sequence of numbers and talk about which numbers are bigger and smaller.
-
Children will be taught the concepts of comparison, sorting, seriating, and simple patterning.
-
Children will be encouraged to hypothesize and predict what will happen in certain situations and be challenged to back up their ideas.
